Scott Rolland Hamann, MD, PhD

Dr. Scott Rolland Hamann is an experienced physician, anesthesiologist, clinical pharmacologist, medical researcher and retired professor of anesthesiology. His career encompasses more than 25 years of direct patient care and approximately 30 years of preclinical and clinical pharmacology research.

Dr. Hamann’s clinical background includes anesthesiology, critical care, trauma care, high-risk obstetric anesthesiology, disability examinations, patient risk assessments and the evaluation of patients with acute injuries. He served as an attending physician with Chambers Medical Group from 2015 through 2019.

As a physician-scientist, Dr. Hamann has extensive experience in drug interactions, pain management, addiction treatment, combination drug therapies and neurological monitoring devices. He served as principal investigator for numerous Phase I and Phase II clinical trials and has authored or co-authored an extensive body of peer-reviewed research.

Teaching and Mentoring

At the University of Kentucky, Dr. Hamann helped develop physician-scientist training within the Department of Anesthesiology. He supervised and mentored anesthesiology residents, chief residents, undergraduate students, graduate students and medical students participating in clinical and basic-science research.

His teaching responsibilities included clinical education in a Level I Trauma Center and a high-risk obstetric birthing center. He also presented lectures on local anesthetic pharmacology, opioid receptors and mechanisms of action, statistics in anesthesiology and anesthesia for elderly patients.
